How writing on wikiHow has enhanced my skillset as a writer
Seriously, I wish I would have gotten on this earlier.
So, for any of you who aren’t aware of what wikiHow is it is an online wiki-style publication that features information articles and quizzes on various topics.
When you get started on the website it will actually ask you the categories that you feel you know the most knowledge in to create a customized algorithm. You can always opt-out of a category if you are tired of being suggested to answer questions about the particular category.
I think I remember getting on this website around pre-Tumblr era (which is around 2012ish for all of you who aren’t aware of that “era”) not actually intentionally, but I would search something on Google and then wikiHow alongside Quora (which is another website where people can get their questions answered) links were suggested.
Who knows what in the world I was randomly searching online. I feel it was anything on the lines of asking how I can convert a women’s shoe sizes to kid’s shoe size or advice on how to make friends in college.
You know typical questions a woman in her early 20’s would ask.
Oh, and by the way if you are wondering why I wanted to know how to convert women’s shoe sizes to kid’s shoe sizes it is because who wouldn’t want to save money on a pair of shoes especially if the kids size is fairly similar to the adult size your originally wear?
Money saving hack. You're welcome.
Fast-forwarding back to the present I recently signed up for a wikiHow account and I have been hooked since. I been trying to find ways to get engaged on the platform whether it is contributing copywriting edits to already published articles or even answer questions that people submit.
I highly recommend using wikiHow as an aide to your writing portfolio no matter if you are doing proofreading, copywriting edits, or submitting articles. It is definitely a good way to get the ball rolling with being consistent with your writing.
Look at is as volunteer work!
I lastly would like to add which I should have mentioned earlier that the community of people on wikiHow are very nice (well at least they seem that way so far from what I have observed as well as the customer service) a little different from the vibe of what you could unfortunately possibly deal with on Wikipedia.
So yeah, definitely check out the website and I will post the link below to my wikiHow profile if you want to connect or check out what all I have contributed so far to wikiHow!
